GTX960 Graphic Card Scam on eBay
It’s that time of year again, the time of year when all the scammers climb out of the woodwork to scam you out of your hard earned cash.
If you’re thinking of upgrading your existing graphics card to a more modern one for a reasonable price be very careful when browsing eBay. There’s a slew of graphic cards on there at the moment, and even though they are being sold by different sellers you will notice that there are some massive similarities in the ads. The most obvious similarity is the pictures that are being used in the description (see below).
There are a few other pictures being used but they tend to be based around this one with a few added Photoshop touches (see other pics).
You will also notice that even when you apply the filter for UK only sellers, when you check on the sellers details they will have been originally registered in China, Hong Kong etc. I think several companies have been hacked, I’m guessing that the companies are associated, probably one company using several eBay accounts.
The card in question is a nVidia GTX 960, 4gb GDDR5 and they are going for between £30 and £40, the price alone should ring alarm bells. When you check on the items that the company has sold recently in the feedback section the one thing that stands out is that they have never sold graphic cards in the past, most haven’t sold any computer peripherals ever in the past. This is usually a good indication that the account has been hacked and hijacked. I’ve had a look at a few sellers feedback’s and not one mentions ever selling a graphic card or for that matter any PC peripherals at all.
To sum up: if you see a graphic card priced at a price that seems to good to be true, it probably is and I would advise that you steer clear and definitely do not buy, go one step further and report the item.
Hope this little articles helps keep your money in your pocket 🙂
